A day at the market

Posted on

This morning we picked up Jimmiqua at 9am and headed to the Public Market. It was cold and windy, but it was still fun to the be there. And we were certainly not alone – the place was packed. We started by visiting our friends’ bakery, JonJohn’s. Out of friendship and love (as well as love for sweets), we bought 3 chocolate dipped peanut butter cookies.

I think we ended up bumping into over 5 people from church, all of whom first recognized YOU! And, Joe, one guy from church introduced you to a number of other people as the Famous Gospel Choir Baby.

Here are some things we bought:
bag of onions – $1.25
green beans – $1
grapes (for you – you picked them out) – $2
rhubarb – $1
nectarines – $2
blueberries – $3

When we came home, we had some hot chocolate and then got to work at making a homemade rhubarb pie – We made it from SCRATCH! All 4 of us! It was so much fun, and it turned out GREAT! We have a fabulous pie now, all for what Daddy reminded us cost $1!! Nice!!

We got to talk with Grandma & Grandpa Luehmann briefly a couple times. We’ll get to see Grandma Luehmann next weekend in New Jersey at Aunt Rena’s opening. Can’t wait!

You’re taking a nap now. I might join you. 🙂 I love you to pieces!!

Where does the time go, Little One?

Grandma checks your blog at least every week, and I haven’t added to it in such a long time!!

Great Grandma Luehmann’s “Big Pancakes”

Here are some highlights of your latest adventures:

We just got back from your Trip #8: a 6-day first class trip to Redmond WA to hang out with your Auntie Amy, Uncle Hakon and Cousin Elisabeth
Today you copied me and put on a little make-up for the first time… Hehehe
You are taller than my night stand – you can actually look at what is on it! When did that happen?!?!
You have the most amazing 8-tooth grin! It warms a room!!
You are still best friends with Marlie at day care.
You are a great eater – Tonight you ate peas, blueberries, pastas, cheese, and homemade molasses bars
You now know where the molasses bars are kept – you walk over to the corner of the kitchen, point to the pan and let us know that you would like one!
On Mother’s Day we went down to Aunt Judi’s hometown and spent the day with all of her family! You had your first hit in wiffleball! What fun!!
You are walking and running and falling and climbing and giggling non-stop
Last night you came home from daycare very sad. I think another tooth or two were making their way into your mouth. You hurt quite a bit. But you woke up this morning in fabulous spirits!!
Your Dadday started his job 3 days ago. He is officially a nurse!
We started making Great Grandma Luehmann’s Big Pancakes (crepes). They have become a family favorite!
Grandma and Grandpa Tatro came to visit May 21 for Daddy’s graduation. My camera was broken, so we’ll need to get some pictures from Grandma T.

I have been running in the morning before you wake up. Monday, when I came back from running, I started stretching on the front porch. I heard a thud, and turned around quickly to see you with both hands pressed up against the door along with your little nose and the biggest smile ever! My heart totally melted! What a fabulous way to start the day!

That’s enough for now.

I love you to pieces, Peanut – More and more and more and more every day. Is that even possible?

Gma & Gpa L’s Visit

Posted on

Hi Peanut –

Just want to tell you about a little adventure we both had a couple weeks ago. I had to go to San Francisco for 8 days for a work conference. Eight days without my little Peanut’s snuggle…Oh, I didn’t want to go. But it was important, so…

The great news is that Gma and Gpa Luehmann drove all the way from Minnesota to spend that time with you!! And they had SUCH a fabulous time getting reacquainted with you and all your personality!! Gma and Gpa sent a little photo album with pictures of your time together. Here are a couple digital pictures I took from the week!

May Day

Tonight we made Grandma’s big pancakes. We learned a few lessons about pan size and patience, but overall it was a success!!! Here are a couple of pictures to document the event (as well as the 5-tooth smile!) It can be like a Where’s Waldo adventure…. When you look at Miss Maya’s face, can you find the chocolate? The strawberries? The whip cream? The apples?

Oh, Beautiful! You are such a JOY!!! Your giggle makes everyone giggle!! Spring is here, and you are LOVIN’ it! We spend every possible minute outside. The flowers make you giggle out loud. I lift you up so your head is in the middle of Magnolia Tree branches in bloom and you look amazed, with the biggest smile! You’re walking like a pro these days… almost running. When we go for walks, you stop and make a 180 degree turn, walking in the opposite direction. You peek over your shoulder to see if Daddy and I will chase you and grab you, and again, you giggle!

13 mnths 2

You and I have been running together lately. You wake up in the morning and start your day with a little OJ. Then you jump in the jogging stroller with your purple blanket, and off we go! It’s a great way to start the morning!

13 mnths 3

Today at daycare you and Marlie (your best friend who looks quite a bit like you) were kissing and hugging each other! The teachers thought you were both so sweet.

So far your words are “I” (for hi!), ‘Momma,” and “Duck” (which sometimes sounds the same as “Dog”). I can’t wait until you can tell me about your day, tell me what your favorite food is, make up a story or joke, say “I love you.”

We just heard some sad news about Aunt Judi. She is fighting colon cancer. This summer might be a bit rough for her. She came over last Thursday and Friday nights to talk with us, and you showered her with wonderful Maya-lovin’! Thank you!! You gave her kisses and snuggles and giggles. You are God’s sweet Angel.

Happy New Year Little One!

Happy New Year, Peanut!

Happy 2006! What adventures do you think God has in store for us this year? How do you think He will use us to love his world? Let’s be ready – willing and available, yes?

Last night we all went over to the Ball’s for New Year’s Eve. You went to sleep in a pack-n-play in Riley’s room, but woke up periodically (probably b/c the grown-ups were making too much noise). Anyway, you were awake at 10:47pm! You almost welcomed in the new year at midnight with us! As your Daddy and I look back over 2005, I think it is very safe to say that your arrival and your presence in our lives was BY FAR the BIGGEST blessing of the year! I realize it is a bit cliche’, but we really can’t imagine life before you – and we don’t even want to try.

Thanks for bringing such joy to our lives and to the world! I love you Sweetness!

Trip #7

Posted on

Hey there Sweetness –

Well, we just arrived home from your seventh trip. This time we drove to Mason, Michigan for Christmas to see Grandma & Grandpa Tatro. Uncle Matt flew in from Vermont as well. It was so wonderful to spend all day, every day, for a whole week with you. I’m sure your friends at daycare missed you, but we were sure glad to get the time with you.

The drive to MI was great! You slept almost the whole way! We stopped for dinner and took time to play and explore the Christmas lights, and then you were back to sleep.

Some highlights of the trip were Christmas church service (you and I studied the nativity scene in the back as I told you the Christmas story for the first time), the beautiful lights and ornaments on Gma & Gpa’s tree, playing with new toys like the musical cube Uncle Matt bought you, and seeing Uncle Mark & Aunt Bi and their new home in Jackson! You showed everyone your crawling ability and how you enjoy to pick things up to eat with your fingers. One night Gma & Gpa watched you while your Daddy and I went to a movie. You slept through most of that, but I hear you woke up for a bit to check things out and make sure everything was okay.

Christmas is the celebration of Baby Jesus coming into the world- He was a baby just like you. He came to live with us to show us how very much He loves us. We are so blessed, Miss Maya, to have such a loving God who cares so much about each one of us! That truly is the greatest gift of all!

I love you, Sweet Pea. And I look forward to celebrating many, many more Christmas’s with you!

Happy 9-month Birthday Beautiful!

Posted on

Hey there Beautiful!

You are going to have one busy birthday when all is said and done today. You had play group this morning where you opened your first present yourself (with a little bit of help). You really enjoyed the ribbon! Your friend Casey gave you two great books: “Doggies” by Sandra Boynton and “Harold & the Purple Crayon” by Jodi Huelin. Mommy got a fun key rack from Casey’s Mom, Melissa.

You are napping now -boy were you tired! So is Daddy.

When you wake up, we’ll have lunch and play. Then this afternoon we have a party and Aunt Judi & Uncle Jim’s!! It’s the Warner School Holiday Party, but I like to think of it as ALSO your birthday party! 😉 After all, you ARE 9 months old today!

Last night you let me read 5 whole books to you. You studied each page so carefully. I loved the feeling of having you sit on my lap while we read. Thanks for still one more treasured memory! You are wonderful.

Happy Birthday Baby!

Happy Thanksgiving~

Posted on

Your first!

I tried to write to you on Thanksgiving day, but for some reason my password wouldn’t work to get on the blog. We all had a fantastic Thanksgiving at Grandma & Grandpa Luehmann’s house in Minnesota. Everyone came – Aunt Amy, Uncle Hakon & your cousin Elisabeth from Seattle as well as Uncle Mark and Aunt Bi from Michigan. (They just moved back to Jackson MI – we haven’t even seen their new house yet – but I hear it’s spectacular! It has a pond and everything!)

You didn’t sleep so well again the night before Thanksgiving – I think your ears were still hurting you. A week ago you were diagnosed with a double ear infection. That along with adjusting to a different bed, different people and a different time zone could challenge even the best of sleepers. Anyway, because we were all a bit sleepy, and you weren’t in the best mood. we decided to skip church. We all congregated instead at Grandma and Grandpa’s house. Great Grandma Friedrich came over in the morning and spent the day with us.
great grandma2

At dinner (at noon), Grandpa asked me to start a special Thanksgiving prayer, and the first thing that popped into my head was you and your Daddy. I know I tell you this every time I write, but I am so thankful for you Little Peanut. Your arrival in my life has made every aspect of it better. The things I treasured before, I treasure even more now; the things I found beautiful before are even more stunning; the things I found disappointing before, I now realize aren’t very important. I want to be a better me for you. You do that, you know. Your beautiful presence inspires people to be happier and just better people. God does wonderful work through you my little angel.
great grandma

We ate a typical American Thanksgiving dinner – turkey, cranberries, squash, potatoes, corn, fruit, stuffing, bread and apple pie. You sampled many of these dishes in addition to your own baby food entres of “Turkey Vegetable Dinner” and some fruit. You really enjoyed the apple pie! 🙂 A girl after my own heart!

After dinner, we opened Christmas presents. You got many fun gifts from different members of the family. Highlights included a cell phone with a promise to call more often from Uncle Mark & Aunt Bi; a beautiful handmade quilt made of the fabric from your baptism stoll from Aunt Amy and her family, and a dressy bessy type doll that is a female astronaut! How cool is that?!?! They also showered you with wonderful books and toys. Auntie Amy also bought you a cute outfit when we found out our flight was cancelled the next day, and you would need something to wear.

Each of these family members, Great Grandma included, was thrilled to hold you and play with you. Your cousin Elisabeth and you had a very special bond. She is 3.5 years old now (you are 8 months old). You made each other smile and giggle. When you cried, Elisabeth came over and sang a little song to you to cheer you up. Grandma gave you a bath together both Thursday night and Friday night. Elisabeth was happy to share her toys and play with you in the water. When she left, she gave you a big hug, a kiss, and a high five on your shoulder (because she realized you couldn’t high five yet.) I think you both really enjoy being each other’s cousin!

The grown-ups played cards the rest of the day. We all had a wonderful Thanksgiving!

The next day we all got family pictures taken at Target in Rochester. Then you, Daddy & I were supposed to fly back to Rochester. Surprisingly, our flight was cancelled. We were standing in line to get our flight rebooked when Grandma appeared out of nowhere and swept you up into her arms. She was THRILLED that she got another day with you. Not long after that (a minute or less), Mark, Bi, Amy, Hakon, Grandpa and Elisabeth arrived and enthusastically greeted us! I, for one, felt very loved. After booking the flight for the next day, Saturday, we headed back to Grandma & Grandpa’s in Austin.

Saturday we joined in a Luehmann family gathering and my Uncle Howie and Aunt Vicki’s house in Lewiston. They got to see you again along with their kids Kayla and Brandon, and you got to meet my Uncle Lyle & Aunt Betty and Uncle Al & Aunt Laurie.

Whew… I’m tired just writing all of this.

Bottom line – we’re so thankful for you Peanut. And we all have so much to be grateful for! God certainly blesses us SO RICHLY!

Love you!

Trick or Treat

Posted on

Well Peanut – You are sound asleep after a fabulous night!

Mommy, Daddy and our little Lady Bug went out for her first trick-or-treating tonight. Both Daddy’s and my cheeks hurt from smiling so much! We visited all the neighbors we know: Joe & Martha, Susie, Larry & Kathy, Mike & Jenny, Susie & Tim, Sonia & David, Anthony & Michelle, MJ, the college girls, and Alan (Laura was in the basement). Everyone was so happy to see you!

You “flew” around smiling and giggling. You picked out the candy from everyone’s bowl, and we helped you put it in your bag.

6 month dr appt and more

Posted on

Hey there Sweetie –

Yesterday you had your 6 month doctor’s appointment…. the first doctor’s appointment without our Dr. Beth Brown. It was sad, but Dr. Glawenski was very nice. Grandma and Grandpa went with us, but Daddy had a lecture he had to go to… we missed him.

fish tank small

The doctor walked in and IMMEDIATELY noticed how loooong you are! She said many times how adorable and wonderful you were. And even this doctor used the word “perfect” during her assessment. I am always quick to agree. 😉

Here are your statistics:
Length: 27 inches 90%!!!!!! (This is a jump!)
Weight: 16 lb 4 oz 50% (following a normal curve for you)
Head Circumference: 16 3/4 in (following a normal curve for you)

You are now eating 3 meals a day of baby food, but Dr. G said that we could just give you our food, her consistency. She mapped out a daily diet for you that included Breastfeeding first thing in the morning and last thing at night. At each meal we will give you some fruits, veggies and cereal followed by a little formula or breastmilk.

6 mnth visit

You got three more shots – you cried while the nurse gave them to you, but you stopped as SOON as I picked you up. You are such a tough girl! You got a sticker again for your bravery.

After your visit, Mommy joined Daddy for an awards luncheon where Daddy was honored with 2 scholarships. I was (as always) so proud of him. You would’ve been too.

After that we joined Gma & Gpa and took a walk on the Erie Canal. You were in a bit of pain though, so I ran and got you some Tylenol. I think that helped a lot. We all went to Babies R Us after that, and Gma & Gpa bought you a high chair! You tried it out in the store! You looked like such a BIG girl! It was so fun!

new high chair

Then we came home and walked to dinner – we ate outside at the Big Apple on Park Ave b/c Gma & Gpa have never eaten on the sidewalk like that. Then we came home and Gma gave you a bath while Daddy & Gpa put the highchair together.

You were sound asleep by 8pm and slept through the WHHHHHHOOOLLLLLE night. I think you were quite tired.

Again, we are SO grateful you are so healthy and happy! We love you little one!
