first word… Duck

Hey there Peanut –

Today you said “duck” twice… once with Daddy playing with your toy duck and the second time with me in the bathtub. The duck you see in your pictures is one of your favorite toys. When you see it, it makes you giggle!

It was so very exciting!

We also went to the Strong Museum – Jimmiqua came with us. She always makes you smile.

So much I want to tell you…

Hi Sweetness –

I was thinking today that there is so much I want to tell you. Things like…

Make sure to be patient with people. We all need a little understanding.
Take time to hold the door open for someone else. It will help you develop a sense of awareness about other people.
Remember to always sing and dance. I can tell it’s in your soul (like it is in mine). Enjoy that always!
Don’t fear or regret failure. Do the best you can to embrace it. Be proud of yourself for trying, and learn something from the experience.

Your smile is one of the greatest gifts you can share with people – strangers and freinds. It will let them know you care.
You can always learn something from others if you just listen carefully.

Always be sincere.

I look forward to the days when we get to learn these things and so much more together. You teach me things like this every day.

More later, Miss Maya. I love you.

Happy Birthday once again

10 months old today! Happy Birthday Peanut!

(Grandma L sent you a Happy Birthday email today… I put it in your calendar.)

Last week 2 teeth in the bottom middle of your little mouth popped through the gums! You’re standing by yourself for long periods of time. You’re crawling like there’s no tomorrow. You love to walk holding on to some big person’s fingers. You pull yourself up to standing so many times a day to see and play with things. You dance when you hear music! And you giggle when you watch me dance.

first sign of teeth – nice work!

You are such a joy, Sweet Pea.

I’m sorry you have a cold. You and I are sharing the same running nose and tiredness, and you have an awful-sounding cough. I hope you rest well today, so you are ready to play with your friends in the morning. You haven’t seen the daycare crew for over 4 days… I’m sure they miss you! If you’re not feeling well, we’ll go and meet our new doctor tomorrw. I hear she is very nice!

Daddy & I are trying to teach you some sign language, as people say you can learn to talk with your hands before you can learn many verbal words. So far we have been working on Dadda, Momma, dog, bear, light, fan, ball, eat, more, and all done. We haven’t seen you make any clear signs yet, but it could be any day…

Grandma T made this sweet jumper for you. You look beautiful!

I love you, Sweetness,

Happy New Year Little One!

Happy New Year, Peanut!

Happy 2006! What adventures do you think God has in store for us this year? How do you think He will use us to love his world? Let’s be ready – willing and available, yes?

Last night we all went over to the Ball’s for New Year’s Eve. You went to sleep in a pack-n-play in Riley’s room, but woke up periodically (probably b/c the grown-ups were making too much noise). Anyway, you were awake at 10:47pm! You almost welcomed in the new year at midnight with us! As your Daddy and I look back over 2005, I think it is very safe to say that your arrival and your presence in our lives was BY FAR the BIGGEST blessing of the year! I realize it is a bit cliche’, but we really can’t imagine life before you – and we don’t even want to try.

Thanks for bringing such joy to our lives and to the world! I love you Sweetness!
